  • Yes, all participants are welcomed as long as they meet the eligibility requirements listed in the challenge terms and conditions.

  • Yes, you may still join the challenge even if you missed the introduction webinar as it will be recorded and published for reference. Simply complete the form on the site to register.

  • Yes, you would need to participate in a team consisting of two to five persons, ideally with a healthy mix of programming and business skills sets.

Part II: Solution Development

  • You will need to produce a functioning, minimum viable product prototype. But worry not, if your idea is selected, you will be given the time, mentorship, and technical guidance to do so.

  • Yes, you will be given mentorship and guidance from industry experts to help refine your final solution, which will be presented on pitch day.

  • Yes, you may submit more than one idea. But you will need to submit them through separate forms.

  • A panel of judges, consisting of industry experts, will review each submission to see if it meets the selection criteria. You will find further details on said criteria in the challenge info pack.

  • We highly encourage you to use the Microsoft Azure platform provided as part of the development phase of the challenge. Bonus points would be allocated as part of the solution development evaluation for successful use of Azure services.

  • No starter kits would be provided for this challenge. You would be free to develop your own hardware as you see fit as part of your solution build. Be creative!

  • For this challenge, it is not mandatory for you to trial your solution with a live 5G network; but should you have a device gateway / chipset as part of your solution that is already 5G enabled, you would be more than welcome to test it out on our network. You may drop us an email at iotc@maxis.com.my and we would get in touch with you.

  • Low latency is achieved by design (eg: transit, compute load distribution between edge and core systems). The hurdle will be dependent on how we collaborate with different parts of the solution value chain to put together the low latency 5G solution – although this would be temporary as we continue to mature on the technology.

  • You will be notified in the second week of October 2020 via email.

Part III: Tech Solution Validation

  • You are required to share technical documentation of your application on top of a link for us to run and validate your application. More details will be provided at the introduction webinar.

  • Your idea and solution are solely yours to keep. All information presented and shared will be kept confidential and not be reused.

Part IV: Others

  • At Maxis, we are highly passionate and driven in pushing the boundaries of technology. We believe that great ideas are generated when people of different backgrounds are brought together and empowered to turn their ideas into reality. We’re constantly working to bring to market products and services that will benefit society as a whole, and the IoT Challenge is one of the many ways for us to realise the full potential of our 5G network.

  • Don’t worry, drop us an email at iotc@maxis.com.my, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible! Promise, we don’t bite :)

  • 5G is the next generation of wireless technology. Just as 4G is slowly edging out 3G, 5G will completely change how we harness the power of the internet in the future. With vastly improved speed, lower latency and greater capacity, 5G will enable early adopters to sprint ahead of the competition. Learn more.
